Honey FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Honey

Product & Quality

What makes your honey raw and unfiltered?

Our honey is never heated above natural hive temperature and is only lightly strained to remove debris while keeping all the beneficial pollen, enzymes, and nutrients intact. This preserves the natural goodness that makes raw honey so special.

How is your honey different from supermarket honey?

Unlike mass-produced honey that's often heated, ultra-filtered, and blended from multiple countries, our honey is 100% British, raw, and traceable to our Essex apiaries. You're getting pure, local honey exactly as the bees made it.

Why does my honey crystallize, and is it still good?

Crystallization is a natural process and actually a sign of pure, raw honey! It's perfectly safe to eat and many people prefer the creamy texture. To return it to liquid, simply place the jar in warm (not boiling) water.

What's the difference between Spring Blossom and Summer honey?

Spring Blossom honey is light, delicate and subtly floral — perfect for drizzling over yogurt and herbal teas. Summer honey is smooth, floral and naturally sweet with a richer golden flavour — ideal for teas, toast, porridge and baking.

Health & Benefits

What are the health benefits of raw honey?

Raw honey is high in antioxidants, has natural antibacterial properties, and contains beneficial enzymes and pollen. It can support immune health, soothe sore throats, and provide natural energy.

Is raw honey safe for everyone?

Raw honey is safe for most people, but should not be given to infants under 12 months old. If you have specific health concerns or allergies, please consult your healthcare provider.

How much honey should I consume daily?

While honey is natural, it's still a sugar. Most health experts recommend 1-2 tablespoons per day as part of a balanced diet.

Does heating honey destroy its benefits?

High heat can reduce some of honey's beneficial enzymes and antioxidants. For maximum benefits, add honey to warm (not boiling) drinks or use it at room temperature.

Sourcing & Sustainability

Where do your bees collect nectar?

Our bees forage across the beautiful Essex countryside, collecting nectar from wildflowers, spring blossoms, and summer blooms. All our honey is harvested in small batches from our local apiaries.

How does buying your honey support local bees?

By choosing our honey, you're supporting responsible beekeeping practices and helping maintain healthy bee populations in Essex. We prioritize bee welfare and sustainable hive management.

Are your bees treated ethically?

Absolutely. We follow ethical beekeeping practices, ensuring our bees have plenty of their own honey stores and are never harmed during harvesting. Bee health and welfare are our top priorities.

Is your honey tested for purity?

Yes, our honey is 100% pure British honey with no additives, blending, or adulteration. We take pride in complete traceability from hive to jar.

Storage & Usage

How should I store my honey?

Store honey at room temperature in a sealed container away from direct sunlight. There's no need to refrigerate — in fact, cold temperatures speed up crystallization.

Does honey expire?

Honey has an incredibly long shelf life due to its natural antibacterial properties. When stored properly, it can last for years. We include a best-before date for quality purposes, but honey rarely spoils.

How do I soften crystallized honey?

Place the jar in a bowl of warm water (not boiling) and stir occasionally until it returns to liquid. Avoid microwaving as high heat can damage honey's beneficial properties.

What's the best way to use flavoured honey?

Our Lemon & Ginger honey is perfect in hot water or tea for immune support. Raspberry and Strawberry honeys are delicious on toast, pancakes, or yogurt. Sea Buckthorn honey adds a tangy twist to breakfast or desserts.
